Christmas Wreath Gifts

This year I made a few gifts instead of buying them.  I am not much of a crafter.  I like doing it but don't really have the time for it, and I often get discouraged if my project doesn't come out the way I imagine it in my head.  But I had seen several vintage ornament wreaths on some of my favorite blogs and thought, "I can do that".  I searched all year for old ornaments at estate sales.  I ended up making one ornament wreath for my mom, a pink ornament bunt cake for my little sister and a vintage jewelry wreath for my big sister.  Here is how they came out.  Not totally perfect but I'm happy with them, and I can't really decide which one is my favorite because I like them each for different reasons.

The pink bunt cake.  For my little sister because she is pink and sparkly and loves to cook and bake.

The big Christmas wreath for my mom using some older ornaments that she probably pricing in her head how much the ornaments are worth.  She is a big collector of old Christmas.

And the jewelry wreath for my big sister.  She loves vintage jewelry.  It looks better in person than in these photos.  Nice thing about this one is you can easily take some of the jewelry off of it if you wanted to wear it.  I used old brooches, hat pins, shoe clips, button and a beaded necklace.

So what do you think of them?

Story of a Rain Drop

Saturday morning had crazy downpours so I didn't stand in line this weekend.  I waited till the sale was already opened.  I may have missed out on some things but I'm pretty happy with my haul.  At the first sale I picked up some vintage Christmas, millinery fruit and some vintage tulle material.

I never find jingle bells with all bells attached so I was pretty happy to find these.

The late husband of the next estate was a teacher and had some neat teaching books from the 50's/early 60's.

Science book with picture words.

Also picked up a great picture book about Chicago from the turn of the century.

Standing in line to pay for these, and a few other things, I was given a tip about a thrift store close by that had some vintage clothing.  So I went off my routed out plan to check it out.  It wasn't as fabulous as I had imagined in my head but well worth the stop.  The ladies working there were super nice and I got a super good deal on a bag full of clothing, aprons, scarves and purses.  I will have to return there for sure.

Just a few pieces.

Last Weekend Sales

I went to two sales last weekend.  The first was on Friday, and it was early and close, so of course I went.  The first things I search for at sales is vintage clothing so I always head to the bedrooms.  I just happened to turn my head and see a closet with clothes in it out of the corner of my eye.  I got a 2 50's vintage dresses, a coat, a suit and a cute Juniorette hat by Mr. John with original hat box and tags.  The upstairs didn't have anything clothing wise except children's and it wasn't anything special.  But I did find some embroidered pillow cases which I have a major weakness for.

White on white embroidery...so pretty

Roosters on a pillow case?  Still cute, yes.

Deep purple cala lilies

And check these out!  I have never seen early movie stars embroidered on pillowcases before.  I love these!  I'm going to have a hard time selling them...maybe I'll keep them.

On Saturday morning I went to a sale that advertised vintage Christmas ornaments which I am collecting for a project of mine.  I got some nice chippy ones with nice patterns.

Then I found a pile of these little boys knickers from the 20's.  I love when I find unexpected items.  I think they should sell well.  I love the old labels on them.

All in all it was a good weekend.  Except for the sale I missed that I planned on going to, but didn't.  I'm still sick about missing it.  I heard there was some good stuff there.  But I can't talk about it anymore, I have to put it out of my mind and move on.
